Not all preserved flowers are the same - here is why

Not all preserved flowers are the same - here is why

Surely you’ve seen bundles of dried wheat in the fields or €5 preserved flower sets on Temu, and then visited a florist’s website and noticed one thing — the price difference.

Let’s dig deeper and see if that’s the only difference that matters.

Yes, You Can Dry Flowers at Home (and We Encourage It!)

First — yes, you can make preserved or dried flowers at home! If you find beautiful materials in nature, we absolutely recommend trying it out as a fun DIY project.

Method 1: Air-Drying

Cut your flowers to the desired length, then hang them upside down in a place without direct sunlight — ideally a dark, dry, and ventilated space. In 2 to 3 weeks, your greens will be dried and ready to enjoy.

Optional trick: spray them with hairspray to make them a bit sturdier.

Method 2: Glycerine Preservation

Prepare a mixture of glycerine and water (1:2 ratio) and place the cut flower stems into the liquid for 3 to 7 days, depending on the type. After that, remove the stems and let them air-dry upside down in a ventilated room.

The Results?

These DIY methods are beautiful and nostalgic — but not without limitations.

Over time, your flowers will likely become:

  • Very fragile
  • Prone to losing petals or parts
  • Noticeably faded in color

What About Cheap Bundles Online?

You might consider ordering a €5 “preserved” bundle online, thinking: That’s all I need, right?

But when the package arrives, you’ll likely notice:

  • Better color than DIY versions, but still extremely delicate
  • Difficulty creating any proper floral arrangement
  • Strong chemical smells or questionable residues
  • (Yes, many cheap imports are treated with unregulated substances)

And That’s Actually a Good Thing…

Why? Because now, you’ve experienced the low-cost options firsthand. And if you’re still dreaming about having those beautiful flowers in your home — or gifting something truly special — it might be time to ask:

Is it worth choosing premium preserved flowers?

Yes. And Here’s Why.

A premium florist will offer you:
